Citace:
"38a. Absinth
a) Absint is a spirit drink produced by flavouring ethyl alcohol of agricultural
origin or distillate of agricultural origin with absinth (Artemisia absinthum
L.) in combination with other plants as Roman wormwood (Artemisia
pontica L.) anise (Pimpinella anisum L.), fennel (Foeniculum vulgare
Mill.), hyssop (Hyssopus officinalis), mint (Mentha spp.) or any other plant
which contains the same principal aromatic constituent, using the following
processes or a combination thereof:
i. maceration and/or distillation at less than 86% vol.,
ii. re-distillation of alcohol containing grains or other parts of the plants
referred to in point a),
iii. addition of natural distilled extracts of the plants referred to in point
a).
b) The minimum alcoholic strength by volume of absinth shall be 40%.
c) Absinth must contain a quantity of thuyone (alpha and beta) between 5
milligrams per litre and 35 milligrams per litre.
d) Absinth may have a minimum anethole level of 1 gram per litre. Member
States may establish stricter rules for the use of anethole.
e) Absinth may have a maximum sugar content of 100 grams per litre
expressed as invert sugar.
f) Absinth cannot be coloured or aromatized by substances other than those
mentioned in paragraph a)."
Ponechme stranou nesmysl v podobě cukru, důležité jsou ostatní aspekty.
A teď čtěte to, co navrhují naši poslanci/komisaři/whoever:

Czech comments on „Absinth definition“ presented by DG AGRI on the Committee for
Spirit Drinks on 8th February 2012
Czech Republic, as a tradional producer of Absinth, would like to make some comments on
the Absinth definition proposed at the last Committee for Spirit Drinks.
1) Anethole level. A minimum anethol level of 1 gram per litre is proposed. Anethol is an
aromatic compound derived mainly from anise and fennel and gives the product its
specific taste and aroma. Besides this, it also has a so called ouzo effect (white color)
when mixed with water. Therefore we suggest reducing the proposed minimum level
of Anethole to 0,1 gram per litre.
2) Thuyone level. Minimum thuyone level is proposed 5 milligrams per litre. Thuyone is
a hallucinogenic compound traditionally occuring in Absinth. The proposed level is
excessive; we suggest minimum level of 3 milligrams per litre.
3) Ban on colours. The definition proposed introduced the ban on colours for Absinth.
Only colours derived from typical plants could be permitted. We did not agree with
this ban, because in the Czech Republic several types of Absinths with various colors
are traditionally produced.
Moreover, the proposed maximum level of sugar content (100 g per litre) is too high. This
level is very close to the level for liqueurs and may influence the taste of Absinth. We suggest
to reduce this level.
This position has been widely discussed with the Czech spirit industry. Thank you for taking
these comments into account.

Takže
Česká strana, která
nemá o tradici výroby absintu ani páru chce do definice doplnit
Tuvy?
